Impressions from the workshops in Utrecht

Hin+Her_Munich-collage2.jpg

We enjoyed exchanging our way of working with Andrea and Steffie a lot.

We got inspired by Andrea’s and Steffie’s way of Drifting through the city and how you can dance and play on the street while moving as a group through the city. Also working with elderly people in Munich and the experience with headphones on (audio walk) was interesting.

We discovered that by inviting Andrea and Steffie from Munich we strengthened our work and our relations with organisations in Utrecht and at the same time new collaborations in Utrecht developed.

By reflecting on our work we can clearly see the value of our Community Art Projects ‘Looping Spaces’ and ‘Common Stage’. We work as Artist Educators and that means we always start with ourselves and the relationship with the people of our community. We have time for everyone personally and we could call it an Art Based Community. Looping Spaces allows everyone to participate in their own way. Seeing people in their strength creating, collaborating, playing is such a pleasure!

Hin und Her - Movement and Playing in Public Space

Two workshops in München (DE)

PROGRAM Friday October 6th and Saturday October 7th - München Sendling

Friday 15.00h-17.00h 'Audio_Spazier_Tanz' workshop with Andrea Marton & Stephanie Felber (DE)

Would you like to discover the city/your district together? Together we take a look at familiar and less familiar places, streets and paths in Sendling.

What makes a place familiar, accessible, invites you to linger, and which places do we experience more as places of transit? What do we do there and what would we never do there? How do we come into contact with others? What role does my body and the way I move play in this? What else can I do other than walk, stand, sit in public spaces?

Saturday 10.00h-12.00h ‘Looping Spaces’ workshop with Susan Bink and Susi Rosenfeld (NL)

We are staying in a public space in Munchen Sendling for around two hours and we explore by playing: How do you sense space and how do you move in it? How can we create a performance and how can we involve passers-by?

After warming up together, we explore the theatrical play of everyday life. Scenes that unfold and which you can join: When are you a leader, follower or witness? We work with observation exercises, (dance) scorecards and from materials such as sticks and ice.

Enjoyment of the unexpected, play and creating together are central.

dance in public space
Connecting Communities, Utrecht (NL) - Munich (DE)

In this exchange project, we meet Andrea Marton and Stephanie Felber from Munich. We share and exchange ways of working in participatory dance projects in public space.

Andrea and Stephanie also work in public space with mixed groups of people with diverse ages, backgrounds and experiences. In 2023, we are going to share our methods to find out in which way this connects people from the communities we participate in.

In June Andrea and Steffie will first visit Utrecht to get to know the neighbourhood of Utrecht-West. They will give a workshop and join two of our workshops as well. We will invite people from the neighbourhood and together with the group, we will reflect and explore ways of working in the future. In October we will visit Andrea and Stephanie in their communities in Munich.

We play with the idea to go in 2024 with a group of people from Utrecht to Munich and vice versa to experience different landscapes, move, dance and perform together. How do we move as a group in a familiar environment and how in a new environment? In public space in two countries: in the city, in the woods, in the mountains, and by the sea.
